Kay Gunther Gabriel is an engineer specializing in Environmental Science and Process Engineering and a pioneer in ceramic membrane technology, with more than two decades of experience spanning innovation, industrial scale-up and global market adoption. In 2005, he was responsible for the world's first membrane bioreactor (MBR) using Ceramic Flat Membranes, leading its design, construction and operation. He is the inventor of 12 patented or patent-pending innovations covering ceramic membrane manufacturing, module design, water and wastewater filtration, and membrane cleaning processes. He has held senior roles in R&D, product management and business development, and brings more than 15 years of experience in the Middle East, including five years based in Saudi Arabia, where he played a key role in establishing Ceramic Flat Membranes for the treatment of NORM-containing groundwater. In 2016, he founded CERAFILTEC and built the company into a global market leader. In 2023, as CTO, he established CERAFILTEC's R&D Science and Technology Center in Germany. Today, through CERA-KNOW, he works as an independent consultant advising technology developers, manufacturers, end users and investors.
