Derek Bruton is Head of Mergers & Acquisitions at Modern Wealth Management, where he leads the firm’s national M&A and Partnership Development strategy. With 35 years of financial services experience, he brings extensive expertise in RIA operations, strategic growth, business optimization and advisor transitions. Before joining Modern, Derek served as Senior Managing Director at Gladstone Associates, leading numerous RIA and broker-dealer transactions. He previously held executive roles at Charles Schwab, TD Ameritrade and LPL Financial, helping recruit more than 10,000 financial advisors and advising over 20,000 firms and institutions. A respected industry voice, Derek has contributed to wealth management media and authored white papers on M&A trends, valuation and sustainable growth. He graduated from Stanford University, completed executive business management coursework at Harvard University and played professional basketball in Japan. Derek lives in San Diego with his wife and enjoys tennis, gardening and sports.
