Gbenga Sholotan is Head of Special Assets Management at Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), where he leads the management, restructuring, recovery and value optimisation of complex investments across the Corporation’s portfolio.

He has two decades of experience spanning private credit, public markets, infrastructure finance, special situations/turnaround, restructuring, project finance and investment banking, with extensive transaction and portfolio experience across Africa’s mining, energy, natural resources, industrial and infrastructure sectors. His work has involved some of the continent’s more complex credit and restructuring situations, including cross-border workouts, operational turnarounds, lender negotiations, capital restructurings, and the development of strategies to preserve and unlock value in investments.

Prior to his current role, Gbenga managed AFC’s over US$1 billion Natural Resources portfolio across 10 African countries, as a Portfolio Manager, giving him deep experience at the intersection of capital, commodities, infrastructure, and emerging-market risk. Earlier in his career, he held roles at PwC, Standard Bank/Stanbic IBTC and Rand Merchant Bank, among other leading financial institutions.

Gbenga currently serves as a Board Director of Nouvelle Gabon Mining, where he contributes to governance, strategic oversight, turnaround initiatives, and long-term value creation. He is also an Independent Investment Committee Member of CFG Africa Asset Management’s US$75m Non-Interest Private Credit Fund and the US$7.5m Mutual Fund, bringing his experience in credit underwriting, downside protection, investment oversight, restructuring, and portfolio risk to investment decision-making.

He holds an MBA from Warwick Business School and is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School’s High Potentials Leadership Program. He is also the author of Structured Capital Africa – a practitioner-led newsletter providing insights on African private credit, restructuring, special situations, capital solutions, and value creation across complex investments.
